Selfstorming MCP documentation
Everything an IT admin or a curious user needs to know before connecting: the endpoint, how login works, what each tool reads and writes, what we store, and the limits.
Overview
Selfstorming is a marketing ideation platform with curated libraries: 1,800+ award-winning campaigns, 850+ sourced marketing findings, 500 creative mechanics, 52 strategy frameworks and 61 marketing laws. The MCP server exposes these libraries and the ideation engine to AI clients, so an assistant can work from a user's project context and from Selfstorming at the same time.

Connect
Add https://www.selfstorming.com/api/mcp as a remote MCP server (custom connector) in your client, then log in with your Selfstorming account and approve access. Step-by-step instructions for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor are on the MCP connector page.
Authentication
The server is an OAuth 2.1 protected resource. Unauthenticated requests get a 401 with a WWW-Authenticate header pointing to the protected-resource metadata at /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource, which starts the client's OAuth discovery. The authorization server is Selfstorming's Supabase Auth with dynamic client registration (DCR), so clients register themselves; no API keys are involved.
Users log in on selfstorming.com and approve the client on a consent screen. Tokens are short-lived and refreshed by the client. Selfstorming never sees your AI client's credentials, and the client never sees your Selfstorming password.
To revoke access, remove the connector in your AI client. To revoke every client at once, email hello@selfstorming.com.
Tools
Every tool carries a title and a readOnlyHint or destructiveHint annotation, so clients can run read-only tools without approval prompts. Tools that write only create new content in your own account. No tool deletes or overwrites data. Apart from the Social Ad Studio tools, which can read a website you point them to, no tool reaches the open web.

Ideation
These tools create new sessions in your Selfstorming account. They never delete or overwrite anything.

Data handling
Selfstorming receives only the arguments your AI client passes to a tool, such as a search query or a brief. It never receives your conversation, your files or anything else in your AI client.
- Briefs sent to the ideation tools become sessions in your Selfstorming account, visible only to you, exactly as if you had used the web app.
- For each tool call we log usage metadata: tool name, duration, success or error. We use it for reliability and product analytics.
- Usage limits are enforced with per-user daily counters.
- Rendered framework diagrams are stored as images and served from a link returned to you.
- Your briefs and sessions are never used to train AI models. Selfstorming calls AI models only through paid APIs whose terms exclude customer data from training.
Library content (campaigns, findings, techniques) is public reference material; Marketing Wisdom findings come from third-party research, and every result names the original source. Full details are in our privacy policy and terms.
Limits
Pro is unlimited in the web app. Through MCP, per-user fair-use limits stop runaway agents and bulk copying of the libraries. Daily limits reset at 00:00 UTC.

Library results return up to 20 items per call, and paging reaches the first 100 results of a query. When a limit is reached the tool answers with a plain message saying when it resets.
Troubleshooting
- The client asks for a command instead of a URL (ChatGPT, Codex): switch the server type to Streamable HTTP.
- "Selfstorming MCP is a Pro perk": your account has no active Pro subscription. Upgrade on the pricing page, then call the tool again.
- Tools stopped working after a while: reconnect the connector to refresh the login.
- "Daily Selfstorming MCP limit reached": wait for the reset at 00:00 UTC or use the web app, which has no limits.
