Alpine: 70 Ans
Alpine tasked BETC Étoile Rouge with creating a brand film to commemorate its 70th anniversary. The objective was to honor the brand's history while reinforcing its relevance for the electric future. The client needed to communicate the core DNA of the brand to a global audience of automotive enthusiasts, ensuring the legacy of founder Jean Rédélé felt modern, authentic, and uniquely Alpine.
Creative Idea
A comic book narrative traces seven decades of obsession with vehicle lightness.
To celebrate 70 years of heritage, Alpine used a stylized comic book narrative to dramatize its obsession with lightness, proving that the brand's core engineering philosophy has remained an unwavering, competitive force from the 1950s to the electric era.
Seven Decades of Obsession with Weight
Crafting the Comic Book Aesthetic
To bridge the gap between 1950s history and the modern era, director Antoine Bardou-Jacquet utilized a sophisticated blend of live-action and high-end VFX provided by Mathematic Studio. The visual language was specifically designed to mimic the aesthetic of classic French graphic novels, a nod to the era when Alpine first gained traction. This stylistic choice allowed the production to seamlessly transition between the grainy, sepia-toned reality of Jean Rédélé in his garage and the vibrant, high-speed racing sequences of the modern electric fleet.
A Nod to French Pop Culture
The inclusion of Michel Vaillant was a deliberate creative decision to anchor the brand within the broader French cultural consciousness. By placing the fictional racing icon in the same paddock as the Alpine team, the agency created a meta-narrative that honors the historical intersection of automotive engineering and popular art. This crossover was not merely a cameo but a structural device to demonstrate that Alpine has been a constant, legendary presence in the imagination of racing enthusiasts since the late 1950s.

Precision in Sound Design
The sonic landscape of the film was curated by Gilles Facerias and Alex Jaffray of Start Rec. The score was engineered to evolve alongside the visuals, shifting from the mechanical, rhythmic clanking of tools in a 1950s workshop to the futuristic, synthesized hum of the brand's current electric vehicles. This auditory progression serves as a subtle, subconscious reinforcement of the campaign's core message: that while the technology has shifted from combustion to electricity, the fundamental obsession with lightness remains the brand's primary competitive advantage.
