The Range Rover Sport Plug-In Hybrid tackled the perilous Tianmen Mountain "Dragon Challenge," a visually stunning and extreme test of 99 turns and 999 steps, effectively demonstrating its unparalleled performance and capability by pushing the vehicle to its absolute, legendary limits.

45 Degrees of Pure Sky
To prove the Range Rover Sport P400e PHEV was more than a city car, Spark44 and director Sam Brown took a showroom - standard vehicle to China's Tianmen Mountain. The ascent was so steep that driver Ho-Pin Tung could see nothing but the sky through the windshield, relying entirely on the vehicle’s cameras and external spotters to navigate the 999 steps. Before shipping the car to China, the production team built a massive 45 - degree steel staircase in the UK to verify the vehicle’s approach and departure angles could physically clear the steps without bottoming out.
Instant Torque vs Ancient Mythology
While the team attached a safety cable to prevent the car from tumbling down the mountain in the event of mechanical failure, the cable remained slack throughout the 22 minute and 41 second run. The campaign served as a critical proof of concept for hybrid technology; it demonstrated that the instant torque of an electric motor was a superior asset for extreme off - roading. This was the final installment of the Driven Challenges series, which previously included the "Inferno" downhill ski course and the "Empty Quarter" desert crossing.
