Heineken: Socializing Billboards
Heineken Brazil challenged LePub São Paulo to increase brand relevance in high-traffic urban areas. The goal was to move beyond traditional OOH competition and demonstrate the brand's commitment to socialization. The client needed a solution that would capture consumer attention in a crowded market while reinforcing their identity as the original social network, effectively turning the streets into a place for connection.
Creative Idea
Two brands shared one billboard scene to create a unified, social visual narrative.
Heineken transformed urban outdoor advertising by splitting a single social scene across two adjacent billboards, pairing its own ads with partner brands to turn competitive media space into a seamless, collaborative invitation to connect.
Turning Competitors Into Partners On The Street
The Logistics Of Shared Space
Executing this campaign required a complex media buying strategy that moved beyond standard inventory procurement. LePub São Paulo had to coordinate with iFood and Misci to secure adjacent physical billboard structures in high-traffic corridors. Because OOH inventory is typically sold in isolation, the agency had to negotiate specific placement pairings to ensure the visual alignment of the split-scene photography remained seamless. This required precise measurements of the physical gaps between panels to ensure the subjects appeared to be interacting across the divide rather than being interrupted by structural borders.
A New Model For OOH
The campaign represents a shift in how brands view urban real estate. By treating the neighboring advertisement as a collaborator rather than a distraction, Heineken effectively doubled the creative footprint of their message without needing to purchase double the space. This approach turned the street into a living, breathing social network. Instead of the traditional "zero-sum" battle for consumer attention, the billboards functioned as a cohesive narrative. This strategy reinforced Heineken’s long-standing brand platform as the original social network since 1873, proving that even commercial entities can find common ground to facilitate connection.

Creative Collaboration
The visual execution relied on high-fidelity photography where the subjects were staged to look toward the neighboring panel. By aligning the eye lines and body language of the actors across the physical divide, the creative team turned a static medium into a dynamic conversation. This required a high level of trust between the partner brands, as each had to relinquish total control over their individual ad space to ensure the final composition functioned as a single, unified story.
