Zulu Alpha Kilo needed to address the growing industry anxiety surrounding AI integration. The agency sought to reaffirm its commitment to human talent while playfully critiquing the limitations of AI in creative work. The goal was to differentiate the agency by positioning human complexity as a premium, necessary asset for clients, rather than a liability to be replaced by automation.

    Creative Idea

An agency fires its AI employee for being too efficient to handle creative work.

The agency highlights the irreplaceable value of human creativity by depicting a performance review where an AI employee is fired for being too efficient, proving that human flaws and complexity are essential to the creative process.

Firing the AI for Being Too Productive

    A Satirical Performance Review

The film centers on the irony of an agency environment where efficiency is the enemy of the billable hour. By casting Carly Heffernan as the weary human manager, Karen, and Kyle Dooley as the voice of the overly eager AI, CHAD, the agency highlights the absurdity of modern agency workflows. The narrative serves as a meta-commentary on the industry's obsession with AI tools, suggesting that while machines can optimize tasks, they lack the human capacity for error, risk, and the "gut feeling" that clients actually pay for.

    In-House Production Power

The project was brought to life by Zulubot, the agency’s internal production arm. By keeping the production in-house, the team maintained total control over the tone of the satire, ensuring the critique of "awards cheating" and "bloated productions" felt authentic to the agency experience. The film was written and directed by Zak Mroueh, the agency’s Founder and Creative Chairman, alongside Group Creative Directors Nick Doer and Gui Bermejo.

    The Strategy Event Premiere

The film made its debut at Strategy magazine’s Agency of the Year 2026 event. This venue is significant because it is a space where agencies traditionally showcase their most polished, self-promotional work. By choosing to present a piece that mocks the very nature of industry self-promotion and the race to adopt AI, the agency effectively used the stage to differentiate its brand identity. It stands as a direct counter-narrative to the industry trend of replacing human intuition with automated creative solutions.
