The 27 Minute Pint in a Portable Pub
27 Minutes of Undivided Attention
To emphasize the philosophy of "quality over quantity," the experience was strictly timed. Guests could book 27-minute slots, a duration calculated as the optimal window to enjoy a pint without distraction. The campaign launched at a critical cultural juncture - June 25, 2020 - just as New Zealanders were emerging from their first major COVID-19 lockdown. While competitors pivoted to digital-first strategies, DDB Aotearoa and Mango Communications went physical, positioning Emerson’s as the facilitator of the intimate, face-to-face reconnections the country craved.
Tiny Darts and Full Sized Kegs
The structure itself was an 8-meter by 2-meter portable rig designed by The Glue Society and produced by Revolver / Will O’Rourke. Despite its size, it functioned as a high-end hospitality venue with running water and four Emerson’s brews on tap served from full-sized kegs. To lean into the "tiny" aesthetic, the interior featured a miniature dartboard, a tiny piano, and a one-item food menu consisting of small portions of cheese. This attention to detail helped the tour sell out its entire national schedule within 24 hours of launch.

Reversing a Sales Decline
The "Tiny Pub" transformed Emerson’s from a regional South Island favorite into a national powerhouse. The campaign reversed a 14% sales decline in supermarkets, replacing it with a 26% increase. By the end of the tour, which concluded in the brand’s home city of Dunedin, Emerson’s had completely sold out of its existing stock.
