Plenitude: Goodnight Light
Plenitude tasked TBWA Italia with increasing brand affinity among families by addressing energy waste. The client needed a solution to the common habit of leaving lights on due to children's fear of the dark. The objective was to encourage energy-saving behaviors in a way that felt helpful, educational, and positive for both parents and children, rather than just another corporate sustainability message.
Creative Idea
A book that only reveals its story in the dark, making darkness fun.
Plenitude created a photoluminescent children's book that is only readable in total darkness. By turning the dark into a magical, interactive experience, the campaign reframed bedtime as a playful energy-saving ritual, effectively reducing the need for night lights.
Turning Darkness Into A Bedtime Game
Engineering The Glow
To transform the book into a functional tool, the production team utilized a specialized photoluminescent pigment silkscreen process. Unlike standard printing, this technique allows the pages to absorb natural light during the day and release it as a soft glow at night. The physical design was engineered to be versatile, allowing the book to fold out into a star-shaped, non-electric bedside lamp. This dual-purpose design was supported by Caleidograf s.r.l., which handled the intricate offset and screen printing requirements to ensure the text remained invisible until the lights were extinguished.
A Pedagogical Approach
The narrative was crafted by authors Elisa Binda and Mattia Perego with illustrations by Hello Saris. The story centers on a young girl named Lucilla and her companion, a clumsy monster named Ombro. By personifying darkness as a friendly character, the campaign aimed to help children define and control their fears. This approach was validated by child pedagogy experts who noted that transforming an abstract, pervasive entity into a relatable character is highly effective for behavioral change.

Beyond The Page
The campaign extended its reach through a digital ecosystem developed by EY+MC Saatchi, which included a hero video and social media amplification on Instagram and TikTok. To reinforce the energy-saving habit, each book included glow-in-the-dark stickers designed to be placed near light switches. These served as friendly, permanent reminders for children to turn off the lights as part of their nightly routine. The books were distributed for free at Plenitude flagship stores, such as the location on Corso Buenos Aires in Milan, as well as through select local bookstores and libraries.
