AnNahar Newspaper: The New President
AnNahar Newspaper challenged Impact BBDO Dubai to address Lebanon's paralyzing two-year presidential vacuum. With public trust in government at an all-time low, the brand sought to reinforce its role as a national guardian. They needed a bold intervention to break the political deadlock, engage a disenfranchised public, and demonstrate that rational, data-driven leadership was possible despite the ongoing parliamentary failure.
Creative Idea
Transformed 90 years of journalism into a functional AI president to fill a leadership vacuum.
To protest Lebanon's two-year leadership vacuum, AnNahar transformed 90 years of its impartial journalism into the world's first AI President, providing a data-driven, unbiased alternative to political deadlock that citizens and government officials could actually consult for solutions.
The 90 Year Memory of a Nation Becomes a President
30,000 Editions of Data
To build a functioning head of state, technical partner Addition (New York) utilized Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to digitize over 30,000 editions of AnNahar dating back to the 1930s. This massive archive of impartial journalism was fed into Large Language Models to create an "agent - based" AI. Unlike standard chatbots, this system was engineered to provide answers on policy, law, and economics based strictly on historical precedent rather than political bias. The interface, OurPresident.ai, allowed citizens to "grill" the digital statesman on the country's most pressing crises.
From Protest to Policy Tool
What began as a bold act of "Active Journalism" by Editor - in - Chief Nayla Tueni quickly evolved into a legitimate civic utility. The AI President’s insights were so grounded in legal and historical fact that they were actually referenced during official government cabinet sessions to help draft directives. Ali Rez, Regional CCO at Impact BBDO, noted that the team wasn't just training an algorithm, but "reviving a century of Lebanese journalism" to fill a vacuum left by 13 failed parliamentary election attempts.

Sold Out in Hours
The campaign’s impact was immediate and physical. While the AI lived online, the special print edition "authored" by the AI sold out in hours, with citizens queuing at newsstands for what became a collector’s item. This surge drove a 28% increase in subscriptions and a 30% boost in digital traffic. Beyond the $25 million in earned media value, the project proved that in a polarized landscape, a "neutral" voice built from 90 years of archives could command more authority than the existing political class.
