Österreich Werbung: The Austrian Bike Bell
Österreich Werbung sought to engage younger, urban, eco-conscious travelers by promoting cycling holidays in Austria. The client needed a campaign that moved beyond traditional visual advertising to address the stress of urban cycling. Serviceplan Austria was tasked with creating a memorable, shareable initiative that embodied the Austrian Lebensgefühl while providing a tangible, positive solution to the friction of modern road travel.
Creative Idea
A mechanical bike bell composed of joyful, authentic Austrian sounds replaced aggressive urban noise.
To replace aggressive urban bike honking with friendliness, Austria Tourism engineered a mechanical, polyphonic bike bell using authentic, joyful Austrian soundscapes. This turned a stressful road signal into a musical, welcoming gesture that embodies the country's unique Lebensgefühl.
Engineering a Harmonic Solution to Road Rage
From Intel Inside to Austrian Roads
To capture the authentic spirit of the country, the agency collaborated with Walter Werzowa, the renowned composer famous for the iconic Intel audio logo. Werzowa was tasked with moving beyond standard metallic pings to create a 4-chime polyphonic system. By sampling ambient sounds like clinking glasses, laughter, and mountain winds, the team engineered a mechanical instrument that produces a harmonious, welcoming chord rather than a sharp alarm.
An Open Source Gift to Cyclists
In a move to maximize global reach and cultural impact, the campaign bypassed traditional retail distribution. Instead, the team launched a dedicated hub where users could download 3D-printing schematics and CAD files for free. This allowed cyclists across the world to manufacture their own bells locally. This strategy was designed to shift the perception of Austrian cycling holidays, specifically targeting younger, eco-conscious, and urban demographics who were previously underrepresented in the T-MONA tourism study.

Authenticity in Every Frame
The production process prioritized raw, natural storytelling. Director Siniša Vidović and the team at Fora Ultra committed to a zero AI production policy, capturing real landscapes and genuine human encounters across Austria. This commitment to physical reality mirrored the mechanical nature of the bell itself. The campaign, which ran from March to June 2026, successfully integrated the product into the broader #lebensgefühl brand initiative, positioning the bell as a tangible symbol of Austrian hospitality and composure. By turning a source of urban stress into a musical gesture, the brand successfully repositioned the country as a modern, innovative destination for the next generation of travelers.
